Produce green energy via biogas
This project is situated in Kenya and needs funds to produce green energy via biogas. The use of Biogas reduces greenhouse gas emissions, saves wood and produces sustainable energy. It runs on cattle- and pigs manure (yes, it really does!) to produce green energy. Through the implementation of biodigesters as a local, sustainable energy source Kenya can increase its access to energy without polluting the climate.

The second project is in Sri Lanka. Batticaloa District was hit hard by two catastrophic floods in 2010. In the affected area most buildings were destroyed, including several day-care centers for disabled children and their families. With the funds these children get water, food, clothing, bedding and of course, medical care.

Therefore, we’ve set up a Young Professional Competition*: a challenge to create the best plan on how to establish 100% renewable energy provision for a specific island in Indonesia.

As a young professional you can sign up as team together with your colleagues (1 team = 10 employees).  After the kick-off in May, teams of different backgrounds will use their knowledge and expertise to fulfill specific assignments. The outcomes of the winning teams will be used in the realisation of the 100% renewable energy provision.

By joining the competition you contribute to global issues, expand your network, create leadership skills, get experience with social media and learn about renewable energy and sustainability.

We had a lot of love going around on Valentine’s day last week… Fans of a better world shared their passion on Facebook and one lucky Valentine was surprised with a box of chocolate hearts. Missed out on this? Become a fan of Pifworld on Facebook too.

One of the speakers during the event illustrated this with dramatic television series Mad Men. This brilliant series is about an advertising agency in the 60s. At that time the creative directory and the production directory were strictly separated. Nowadays, everybody is in everybodies chair. As an advertiser you can’t just sell banners, you need to be part of a process producing creative content. Marketing and advertising became a “hit driven business:” Tweeking, sharpening and adusting to reach a turning point or a viral effect– in this era a campaign is never finished. Creativity and conversion are an interactive process.

The tendency is that running a campaign as successfull as the Marlboro Man back in Mad Men 60s, is a matter of combing several media. Putting print media television, events and online activities together is the only way to get a hold of todays consumer. Exposed to an overload of information every second of the day, you need to be creative to get a consumers’ attention. Therefore your story has to be authentic. Shareable. Personal. Achieving this is an organic process of two or more brands combining their content into one product. Into a story that makes sense. One that forms the mental agenda of its recipients.

As a pioneer in the social entrepreneurial world BCE2011 reassured me. Pifworld is an online charity platform that is at the right spot in the right time. We use new media to enable meaningful communication between brand and audience. This way you have social branded content. We socialize corporate social responsibility by facilitating employee/consumer engagement. Donors get (video) updates of the projects to see the change they made possible. It is personal. Pifworld tries to make it as easy as possible to realise projects for a better world. This time we went into the machine room of our payment system and simplified it. On top of that, thanks to a new payment provider the transaction costs are lower. From now on you merely pay € 0,47 transaction costs when you donate with iDeal. Donating with credit card has become cheaper as well.

We take pride in the fact that on Pifworld donations go directly to the project players and donators choose so we are very happy that we were able to make it easier and cheaper for people to make a difference!

2010 was a good year for Pifworld and we have a lot coming up for this year. A moment of reflection.

Altogether 22 projects were fundraised! With a great contribution of several companies together with their employees. Moreover, we welcomed numerous players and got great help from new partners and volunteers. We were featured in the media several times and last but not least: the IMA award.

In the first two weeks of 2011 we made an exciting kick start: 12,340 euros were donated to more than 10 projects by several companies, among others Vodafone and Mobitrans. We are determined to continue our roadtrip towards a better world in 2011.

It’s the time of the year to give and share. A while ago players funded the Sea Turtle Tracking project and now we would like to share the outcome of the project. This video shows how researchers track Piffie the turtle. Take a look at it, it is definitely worth the watch.

To get into the real Christmas spirit we’ve started our Sharing is Caring month on Facebook. With a slightly cheesy campaign we’re raising awareness for several projects and ask our members to share our posts on their Facebook wall. Curious what you can do? Go to our Facebook page and click the ‘Like this’ button.

Last but not least a suggestion for a Christmas gift that’ll make you feel good: instead of giving your friends and family new socks for Christmas, you can buy other players an online gift. Avoid long queues and busy shopping centers. Login, go to the page of a player and click on ‘Send Gift’. Players can spend their gift credits on any project they like.

Thanks to our players, the Multipass project in Senegal is now completed. The aim of this project is to set up a centre where disabled people can learn and carry out a profession, so they can earn money and become less isolated.  Starting from 20 November Multipass will investigate the wishes of the disabled people and the possibilities for the centre. Then they will make an action plan to improve the functioning of the centre. With the donations of our players, new material and equipment will be bought. The kick-off of the Radical Collaboration Challenge will take place on November 20^th in The Hub Amsterdam, where participants will team up and create a campaign for The Elephant Corridor Project . The teams will campaign for this project during one month, with the support of a coach. During this period, the teams can make use of The Hub as their headquarters to work on their campaign. The teams will present their achievements at the end of this unique challenge.
